Configure your 24CallDesk phone number
Your phone number is the foundation of your 24CallDesk experience. Here's how to get it configured perfectly.
Getting a New Number
When you sign up for 24CallDesk, you'll select your phone number during onboarding:
- Enter your preferred area code
- Choose from available local numbers
- Your number is provisioned instantly
You can start receiving calls within minutes. This number is shareable with your team.
Using Your Existing Number
Want customers to keep calling your current business number? Set up call forwarding from your existing number to your new 24CallDesk number:
- Keep your existing phone service active
- Based on carrier, configure call forwarding to your 24CallDesk number
- All calls to your old number now reach your AI receptionist
Benefits of this approach:
- No service interruption during transition
- Test 24CallDesk before fully committing
- Keep your existing carrier relationships
- Forward only when you want (after hours, when busy, etc.)
Your 24CallDesk number is provisioned instantly. Set up forwarding from your existing carrier whenever you're ready.
Caller ID Configuration
Make sure your business name appears when you call customers:
- Go to Inbound > Team & Settings > Business Profile
- Select your number
- Under Caller ID, enter your business name
- Save changes
Caller ID updates can take 24-48 hours to propagate across all carriers.
Call Forwarding
Set up forwarding rules for when you want calls to go elsewhere:
Forward to Cell Phone
Perfect for urgent calls or when the AI should hand off:
If: Customer says "I need to speak to a person"
Then: Transfer to +1 (555) 123-4567Forward by Schedule
Route calls differently based on time:
- Business hours: AI answers and can transfer to team
- After hours: AI takes messages for next-day follow-up
- Holidays: Custom greeting with emergency-only transfers
Multiple Numbers
Business plans support multiple phone numbers:
- Departments: Different numbers for sales, support, billing
- Locations: Unique numbers for each office or store
- Campaigns: Tracking numbers for marketing campaigns
Each number can have its own AI personality and routing rules.
